Klein Tools is an American company based in Lincolnshire, Illinois that manufactures hand tools. The company is known for its popularity with workers in the electrical and telecommunications industries. Lineman's pliers are often called "Kleins," an example of a trademark.

A former employee said this on Indeed "Senior management at Klein still practices the agent art of nepotism to the extreme. Individual employees lives and families, income, and professional careers have been, and still are, being continuously destroyed without any sense of reason except for the company's petty self image and reputation. They are also practice age discrimination bias. The company does not now, or have they ever, dealt with their employees with compassion nor are they concerned with basic employees legal rights. A classic example of a toxic place to work infected with all of the worst kind of personnel imaginable. Look elsewhere. You will be glad you did!".

"We had a "market adjustment" from what they call it and turns out if they dont want to pay you they give you a "performance review" with one point under to not get the raise . I worked a level 3 job and after talking to numerous supervisor and upper management still nothing was done. Its a revolving door of people. All the employees are so unhappy. You only move up if your friends with someone. Ive talked to hr as well and nothing was written up... its like nothing ever happened. As long as they can save them selves thats all they're worried about. STRESSED OUT IS ALL I GOT FROM THIS PLACE. Cons: Everything.... health care is expecive. Doesn't pay well for what you have to deal with"

"basically if you are friends with a "supervisor" you work your way up the ranks. On job postings level one through four all list the exact same job description with a dramatic change in pay. Don't bring your resume or worry about experience because they go by word of mouth. Cons: pay sucks, management without general education, and leadership closes their eyes to friends"

"Bottom line Trust me you dont want to waste your time. Family owned and operated. They don care about people and they don't care about there health and wellbeing. If you are unemployed I guess its worth it while you look for something better. But don't get too comfortable because it won't last. This is a hi-tech factory with old sweatshop mentality. Slave type of mentality. When I lost my job I found out over the phone with a call from the owner's daughter telling me I was fired. Very personal. Cons: You name it you got it"

"I liked working here in the beginning, but soon realized it wasn't what i thought it would be. In my 4 years there i went through 7 supervisors and 2 plant managers. Management got rid of all the original supervisors that moved down here from Chicago, including one of the best ones based on lies told about him. Management changed quite a bit and was changing again right before i left. They're developing a high turn over rate, don't listen to their employees and hardly promote from within. I only saw a few people get promoted and it was the SAME guys every time. And it was always guys. They tell you what you WANT to hear but don't follow through and never get in a hurry to do anything. All they care about is production and numbers. If all you're looking for is a paycheck then it might work for you, otherwise keep looking because you won't get anywhere at this company. It took me 4 years to get where i was and that's ONLY because i had 2 good supervisors- one of which was the one that was wrongly terminated. Klein is great at getting people in but losy at keeping them. There's way too much favoritism and politics at this company. Cons: Not much promoting from within"

This place is a Sales person meat grinder, you’re on the road about 75% of the time, there is no team atmosphere and I’ve seen people crush their goals and be fired for not submitting their expense reports. "Management is very new and no structure within the company. Pay is okay for a person with no experience in the workforce or little experience. Not a job for anyone with above entry level work experience. Company will compromise defective tools to send to suppliers just to meet the demands of the customer. Co-workers are easy to get along with. Klein tools is easy money nothing hard expected out of anyone, nothing challenging about any position within the company under upper management. Company is no tobacco/smoke free on company premise. They are a Gun free zone and Health insurance is very high due to being based out of Chicago Ill. Cons: Everything"

"Terrible place to work. The mangement is totally focused on traditionals styles, and coercive mangemnt tactics. They never look at the positive, only the negative. you are never told you are doing a good job, they only notice if you make a mistake. They exploit the system, bringing in a never ending revolving door temporary employees, because they're too cheap to hire regulars. You could possibly get full time there, if a person wanted to stick around long enough, Expect at least two to three years. Cons: everything"

"I agree with the other reviewer, they do have a back biting type atmosphere. I myself did not work out so I was fired over the phone. My supervisor supervised me over the phone. Micro manage me maybe a better way to put it. I thought it would be a good place to work but something inside me said to stay away. The people in the manufacturing seemed really nice but in the office area cut throat all the way. Cons: Getting fired over the phone says it all."

"klein tools does not value your opinion or safety or quality. only numbers matter. low pay is included. management is from chicago. different culture. turnover rate for employees is un real, i started imy badge number was in the top 40. when i left after 5 years later the badge numbers were over 1400. unreal. the hardest part of the job is the heat and putting up with micromanagement, i learned not that production numbers were more valued than quality at this company, Cons: managemement has no care"

"I worked at Klein Tools full-time for more than a year Cons: This is the worst run company from an operational standpoint than any other company I have ever worked for. Management does nothing except talk out of both sides of their mouth. Do NOT even consider taking a job in Customer Service or the Credit/Accounting Department. HR does nothing either, so don't bother to escalate anything. It was, by far, the worst experience of my career. Management is ALLOWED to bully you, criticize you, curse at you... all while they do NOTHING and their employees suffer daily. I have never seen employee turnover at such a high rate but it is no surprise why. Once again, HR should recognize this and put two and two together with the many complaints they receive about these Managers and Directors. I saw first hand lying, stealing, and mistreatment of employees from management, things that you don't think exist in the workplace in the modern age we live in. Nothing will change until the dinosaurs retire and they they replace key people in HR. Get a job anywhere else but here. Trust me on this."

"I worked at Klein Tools full-time for more than a year Cons: Klein Tools is an established company with some nice family values, however, if you're not a Klein you shouldn't waste your time. There are some great people who work at Klein but sadly their hard work goes unnoticed because management takes credit for their ideas. Overall the management team (managers, directors, VPs, and above) is made up of a fairly lazy group of men who sit back and burn out their team members with unrealistic goals and timelines. The HR department is sadly stuck in the stone age and they haven't made any necessary changes to keep up with the employment trends. Yes, they added a ping pong table to appeal to the millennial crowd, but how about adding more valuable benefits that employees will appreciate (student loan assistance or work from home). No vacation time is given during the first 6 months of employment and then it's accrued after that and almost impossible to plan ahead. This leads to additional burn out and turn over. They have unlimited sick/personal days but the second you take one it's automatically assumed you're either lazy or on a job interview and after, you're watched like a hawk. At the end of the day, Klein's culture doesn't promote a healthy work/life balance or sufficient growth opportunities due to poor senior management."
